How Anchor Institutions Improve Patient, Community, and Workforce Health

How Anchor Institutions Improve Patient, Community, and Workforce Health

What is the role of health care organizations in community and population health - not only improving the health of patients but also that of their neighborhood and workforce?  An increasing number of hospitals and health systems are committing to an organizational anchor mission to address social and structural drivers of health in their communities.  The anchor institution concept is intimately tied to consideration of equity and health-related social needs.

Becoming an anchor institution requires introspection and serious commitment.  Attend our free virtual event on December 6th and hear from health care leaders - including three CEOs of leading safety-net health systems - as they discuss why and how to develop an anchor mission and become an anchor institution in your community.

You'll learn:

  • The essential elements of an anchor institutional strategy

  • How to begin an anchor strategy - such as with a community health needs assessment - and how to know when you've achieved success

  • What the anchor concept does to go beyond "sick care" and address the drivers of wellness

  • How health care institutions can use their economic and social capital to engage with their communities
