Dr. Walter Clair received undergraduate, medical, and public health training at Harvard. His postgraduate training included a medical residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at Duke. He served as the Executive Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute from 2015–2021 and is currently a Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where he continues to practice clinical cardiac electrophysiology.
Dr. Clair has received several community service awards and distinctions over the years. He has chaired the Social Action Committee of Chi Boule. Additionally, he has served in several leadership roles with the 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee. In 2012, he received the Levi Watkins Faculty Award for Commitment to Diversity at Vanderbilt School of Medicine. Dr. Clair was a member of the Board of Overseers of Harvard University from 2009–2016. In 2021, he was awarded the Harvard Medal.
Having joined the Education Committee of the Heart Rhythm Society in 2009, the next year he became co-chair of its Patient and Caregivers Subcommittee and served in that role until 2014. In 2013, he was a national medical spokesperson for the Heart Rhythm Society’s “Arrest the Risk” campaign to increase awareness of sudden death risk factors among minority patients. He serves on the boards of the Nashville chapter of the American Heart Association (President 2018–2019), St. Marks School (Southboro, MA), and the University School of Nashville Horizons Program.
Tina Freese Decker, MHA, MSIE, FACHE, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of BHSH System — formed by the joining together of Beaumont Health and Spectrum Health in 2022. As system President and CEO, she provides executive leadership for 22 hospitals, 300+ outpatient locations, 11,500+ physicians and advanced practice providers, 64,000+ team members, and a health plan, Priority Health, serving 1.2+ million members throughout Michigan.
Known for her vision and drive, Tina is passionate about tackling the health field’s greatest challenges and building a health system that truly meets the needs of the people it serves by delivering care and coverage that is accessible, affordable, equitable, and exceptional. She devotes significant time and energy to local, state, and national strategic alliances, leading by example as she shares her perspectives and expertise to improve health, and is committed to celebrating and reinforcing inclusion, equity, and diversity for BHSH System team members, patients, families, and health plan members.
Prior to her current role, Tina served as President and CEO of Spectrum Health, where she successfully implemented a new system mission, vision, and values. In previous roles within the system, including Chief Operating Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, and President of Spectrum Health Hospital Group, she drove significant, transformational change necessary for Spectrum Health to improve health and access.
Tina earned a Bachelor of Science in finance from Iowa State University and graduated with a Master of Health Administration and Master of Industrial Engineering from the University of Iowa.
In addition to the American Hospital Association, Tina serves on the boards of Business Leaders for Michigan, The Economic Club of Grand Rapids, and the Gerald R. Ford Foundation. She is currently board chair of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association and The Right Place. Her recent accolades include Crain’s Detroit Business’ 100 Most Influential Women in Michigan, Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare, and Grand Rapids Business Journal’s 50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan.
Dr. Tim Ferris is the inaugural National Director of Transformation at NHS England. The Transformation Directorate draws together the national care improvement infrastructure, digital and data policy and live services, as well as national programs in biotech innovation, research, and life sciences. The combination of these teams delivers transformation in the NHS through redesigning care services, harnessing the power of data and analytics, and building a learning health system that generates knowledge to improve population health. These activities are focused on the NHS’ priorities including pandemic recovery, improving outcomes and reducing health inequalities, and using the NHS as a platform for biotech innovation.
Tim was most recently CEO of the Mass General Physicians Organization (2017–2021) with oversight of the largest group of Harvard faculty physicians and scientists. He was formerly the Senior Vice President for Population Health at Mass General Brigham, overseeing clinical and financial performance for one of the largest accountable care organizations in the United States. He founded the Center for Population Health, an academic industry partnership bringing analytic tools to the improvement of population health. The center’s programs reached over 1 million patients annually, improving preventive services delivery, with documented reductions in mortality and cost.
Tim’s past roles include multiple committees at the National Academy of Medicine, an independent advisory council for the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, and as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of NHS England and NHS Improvement.
Tim trained in medicine and public health at Harvard University, and remains on the staff of Mass General. He was awarded numerous NIH and foundation grants and coauthored over 130 publications on health care quality measurement, health disparities, and health IT.
Tim became a professor at Harvard Medical School in 2018 and continues as an adjunct professor.
Dr. Thomas Lee is Chief Medical Officer of Press Ganey, and an internist and cardiologist who practices at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is a Professor of Medicine, part time, at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. Prior to joining Press Ganey, he served as Network President for Partners Healthcare System and Chief Executive Officer for Partners Community HealthCare, Inc., the integrated delivery system founded by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of Geisinger Health System, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Geisinger Health Plan, Geisinger Quality Options, Inc., and Geisinger Indemnity Insurance Company Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Health Leads; the Board of Overseers of Weill Cornell Medical College; the Special Medical Advisory Group (SMAG) of the Veterans Administration; and the Panel of Health Advisors of the Congressional Budget Office. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the New England Journal of Medicine, as well as Editor-in-Chief of NEJM Catalyst Innovations in Care Delivery and Co-Chair of the NEJM Catalyst Editorial Board.
He is the author of more than 260 academic articles and three books, Chaos and Organization in Health Care, Eugene Braunwald and the Rise of Modern Medicine, and An Epidemic of Empathy in HealthcarNamed in his honor, the Thomas H. Lee Award for Excellence in Primary Care is given each year to recognize a primary care physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital who meets the needs of his or her patients exceptionally well.
Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Science from Harvard College, a medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, and a master’s degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. He lives in Milton, Massachusetts, with his wife, Dr. Soheyla Gharib, who is Chief of Medicine at Harvard University Health Services. The couple has three daughters.
David Lubarsky is the CEO of UC Davis Health, which serves more than 6 million patients in 33 counties, across a 65,000-square-mile area in Northern California. He oversees multiple top 50-ranked entities — the UC Davis School of Medicine, Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, UC Davis Medical Center, and the UC Davis Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Lubarsky has grown UC Davis Health’s revenues by nearly 20% since arriving in 2018, through forging innovative partnerships aimed at transforming care for patients, providers, and communities. He believes everything UC Davis Health does should be about bringing greater health and longer well-span in human lives. As part of this vision to transform health care, UC Davis Health is launching a fully operational and personalized digital platform that enhances the patient experience and will usher in new, less expensive, and more distributed models of care.
Dr. Lubarsky creates triple-win partnerships that bring together and benefit other health systems, government, tech, and cell/gene companies — all to work on behalf of patients. Reflecting this overall vision, UC Davis Health is significantly expanding its research and patient care facilities, while also expanding in-neighborhood care for underserved patients.
Dr. Lubarsky serves on the Board of Trustees of the California Medical Association and was named one of America’s 100 Academic Medical Center CEOs to know in 2020 by Becker’s Hospital Review. He earned his medical degree at Washington University and his MBA from Duke University. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
As Editorial Director for NEJM Catalyst, Edward Prewitt oversees all editorial content for the monthly journal, NEJM Catalyst Innovations in Care Delivery; monthly Insights reports; and quarterly events. He works closely with NEJM Catalyst advisors, authors, and colleagues to ensure that editorial content advances the national and international dialogue to drive innovation in health care delivery, while upholding NEJM Group’s high standards for quality.
Raffaella Sadun is Professor of Business Administration in the Strategy Unit at Harvard Business School. Professor Sadun’s research focuses on managerial and organizational drivers of productivity and growth in both the private and public sector. Professor Sadun’s work appears in leading peer-reviewed journals in Economics and Management, and is frequently featured in the business press. Professor Sadun currently serves as advisor to the Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi.
She is among the founders of the World Management Survey and the Executive Time Use Study. She is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics, the Center for Economic Policy Research, and Ariadne Labs. She currently teaches at Harvard Business School in the Owner/President Management Program, and is the Faculty Chair for the Strategy Unit Executive Education program. She also serves as Co-editor for the Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization and Associate Editor for Management Science and Economica. In 2012, Professor Sadun was nominated as a Junior Faculty Fellow at the Kauffman Foundation. She was the winner of the McKinsey Award for the best article in the Harvard Business Review in 2018. In 2021, she received the honor of Grande Ufficiale dell’Ordine “Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana,” the highest-ranking order of the Republic, awarded for “merit acquired by the nation.”
Professor Sadun completed her PhD in Economics at the London School of Economics. Prior to her doctoral studies, Professor Sadun earned an MSc in Economics from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and a BA in Economics from La Sapienza University in Rome.
